While you can compile a laundry list of features that make Flight Simulator X a jaw-dropping piece of software, it’s the wide variety of aircraft and goal-oriented missions that create such a compelling experience for even the casual flight-sim fan. Microsoft’s new add-on, Flight Simulator X: Acceleration, adds more of what makes the sim great, offering three new aircraft, more than 30 new single-player missions, and 19 multiplayer missions/races. All of the aircraft files are compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator X. All of the downloads can be installed alongside your existing aircraft in FSX. While FSX isn't a combat or military flight simulator, you can still pilot these types of aircraft, however there are some limitations.

In FSX you are unable to shoot down other aircraft or deploy bombs, things that you could do in a military simulation, however the aircraft are perfectly flyable with great cockpits, exterior modeling and 3D animations.

Microsoft Flight Simulator isn't well known for it's military simulation functionality and initially Microsoft released other simulators along side such as Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, however once this was discontinued, many military enthusiasts turned to FS2004 and FSX for their military simulation pastimes.

With the release of Microsoft Flight, we can expect great things from a well balanced simulation package, however the focus will always be on civilian passenger and general aviation flight.
