I have tried starting projectM separately, but it does not integrate with VLC, this is, the visualisations do not sync with the music. However, I have projectM installed at work with other operating system and the projectM option appears directly in the Audio -> Visualisations menu. I'm attempting to install a hackless wifi safe 3.02 version of Project M onto a 2GB SD card. I'm not sure how to reformat my card to FAT32, as I run on Ubuntu 14.4, but I'm fairly sure that all of the files have been deleted. How to change windows Applicatoin's default icon in Setup Project. You can change the icon of the application inside the Windows Application itself. And put that application in the setup project. Right click the WinApp Project and inside the Application section you can choose and Icon which will be an ico file.
I have installed both VLC and projectM (PulseAudio) from the Software Center, but I the visualizations that appear in Audio -> Visualizations have not changed. How can I launch the projectM visualizations from VLC.
(I'm using Ubuntu 11.10.)

Project M is not automatically integrated into VLC (or any application that I know of). You would need to find a plugin for the application that allows you to use Project M's visualizations.
To my knowledge, there is no existing plugin for VLC that allows you to do this. So, like spm says, you will need to start projectM-pulseaudio
separately.
You can't as far as I know.
The command to start the visualizations is projectM-pulseaudio
just type that into a terminal or command window and it'll open in a separate window.

Presets
The preset files define the visualizations via pixel shaders and Milkdrop-style equations and parameters. Included with projectM are the bltc201, Milkdrop 1 and 2, projectM, tryptonaut and yin collections. You can grab all of the presets here.

At its core projectM is a library, libprojectM. This library is responsible for parsing presets, analyzing audio PCM data with beat detection and FFT, applying the preset to the audio feature data and rendering the resulting output with openGL. It can render to an openGL context or a texture.
To look at a simple example way of using the library see the libSDL2 sample code.
There are many other applications that make use of libprojectM and that can be found in the src directory.
- Support for the missing Milkdrop waveforms to get full compatibility with Milkdrop presets.
- Steal cool stuff from the recently-released Milkdrop source.
- Finish emscripten support for building to wasm/webGL for the web.
- Update the various implementations using libprojectM.

This was due to inflexibility of CMake, issues with OSX and SDL2, an unintuitive configuration interface, standardizing on the most common and well-understood build system, a desire to make it easier for others to get up and running and contribute, and other factors too lengthy to expound on here.
