Blacksite Area 51 Russound Outdoor

ARea 51 (Adventure Racing Equipment Australia) was established to fill a significant hole in the market for a specialty multi-sport / adventure racing gear store. The catalyst for starting ARea 51 was due to the difficulty experienced by the owner (Greg Toman) in obtaining quality, light-weight gear suitable for AR events such as the 10day / 750km XPD r. It looks OK, but I am sooooooo tired of playing shooters. I am going to forget that genre until the end of the year.

Another day, another post showing CGI-post processed shots with 8xAA enabled...none of which will ever end up in the actual game.
Nice desktop wallpaper though...

I beat GOW on insane 3 weeks ago. What does that have anything to do with these processed screenshots? You think GOW had 8xAnti-Aliasing? LOL.

yeah, it probably did as a matter of fact. doom 3 on my considerably less powerful pc had 8x anti aliasing enabled...and 16x anisotropic filtering as well, and that was what, 2 years ago?
the point is, there's no reason to think that with this generation of hardware that the screenshots above were post processed in any way. also, i don't think they look all that hot to begin with...
further, 8x aliasing these days exacts a zero performance hit on framerates. this isn't 2002 we're talking about

Umm...There isn't a single PS3 or 360 game with 8XAA. It is actually very intensive on the system.
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then defeat you with experience.

i don't know whether they do or they do not for console gaming. all i can speak about is pc gaming, and on modern pcs, 8xaa, 16xanisotropic filtering are a given...
i would have assumed that given the closed architecture and powerful components, the ps3 and 360 would be in the same situation. if that's not the case, i wonder why. is it lack of dedicated memory?
either way, and the point i was trying to make by referencing gears of war, games can and do look every bit as good as those shots (or better) with no shenanigans required...

every launch game supports 4x aa apparently at the very least...is it so outlandish to assume that 2nd or 3rd generation 360 or ps3 games will support 8x as well?

Actually, no. An Athlon 64 FX-60 PC with 2GB of memory and a 1950XTX struggles to achieve 30-40 FPS in certain games with 8XAA and16xAF. PCs running games at those settings represent a very small percent of gamers.

No, you are not. That article is from May 2005, before the Xbox 360 launched. It is not enforced. With the Xbox 360's eDRAm, it is technically able to achieve 4AX without a meaningful performance loss (around 5% at most) but it seems to be difficult to implement. Future games will take advantage of it though. Don't hold your breath for 8AX games that run smoothly anytime soon.

What planet are you from?
I don't think you're from Earth.
Is there even a handful of 360 or PS3 games with 4xAA?
I don't think so.
Bethesda tried it and it ran Oblivion like a slideshow.

technical documents say otherwise, and i haven't even gotten into the aa capabilities of the ps3... regardless, comments like these are uncalled for. wtf was your rationale for saying such a thing? because i'm asking whether or not 4/8xaa is possible on the 360 when it's used regularly on a pc? WHAT NERVE! HOW DARE ME! i should be hanged for such nonsense talk.
grow up, man. we're trying to have an intelligent discussion here (what is it today with the childish personal attacks???).
also, since you mentioned a game that features anti aliasing on the 360, i guess you proved yourself wrong...
oh, and that 'slideshow' gathered quite a few game of the year awards, regardless...

Although Dralt's comment may have seen insulting to you, I don't think he meant it like that. I was surprised by your 8AX comment as well.
4AX is actually surprisingly difficult on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 does have a GPU helper which allows it to achieve 4AX without a big performance loss (almost free actually). It has not been used in many games which leads me to think that it will take time to master. Forget 8AX on anything besides plan rubber ducks on the screen.
He didn't say that Oblivion is a bad game, he was refering to the console version. The PS3 and Xbox 360 version would crawl to a stop if 4AX was enabled.

Sorry, my response, which I typed too fast, came out badly.
This being said, I reacted to these words of yours:

Now, these words don't ask and do not doubt, they state with assurance something that is not correct in the context you use them in.
My brain had a seizure when I read something so incorrect stated with so much confidence.
Again, sorry for the way it came out, I should be more careful.
PS: Oblivion is my favorite game of 2006, but it was shipped with 2xAA.

well i do admit that it looks like i got my 4/8 aa/af mixed up. i checked my settings after this thread and it seems i'm running 4xaa only (8800 gtx in sli...). 8xaa is not even an option on my rig. i guess i confused 8xaa with 8xaf...so my apologies as well
still, i continue to contend that real life screenshots of gears of war look every bit as good (and better) than those shots above...
